Real Wedding: Nautical Prep

Good morning!  There have been claims of a crazy snow storm hitting the Portland area for days now and finally it has arrived!  Well, not a storm or even close to a couple of inches, but good enough for me enough a cozy day inside :)

If there is a wedding theme that never gets old to me it's the nautical theme.  I love to see navy blue and yellow against crisp white and endearing touches of gold.  It's so traditional and preppy, it's sweetness to my soul!  The Caketress designed the amazing cake and mini cakes for this wedding, which seem to defy gravity with her now famous ruffle design inspired by Ralph Lauren runway (see here). And in collaboration with Platinum Events Group, they created a nautical themed wedding that is absolutely stunning!

What to wear...Target designer collections

It has been a gift from above having international designers such as Rodarte, Thakoon, & Zac Posen bring their genius to the masses at incredibly affordable prices to our local Target stores.  If you are one who has been unaware of this gift it may be due to the high speeds at which these pieces are bought up off the racks. But it has just been announced that 34 of the most popular designs will be re-released for our buying pleasure on March 13th!  So if you missed them the first time around or you want to buy multiples for your bridal party, get out there and scoop them up--all for under $50!!!

DECADES: Bridal Fashion of the Late Sixties and Early Seventies

The late sixties/seventies era is known primarily for wild and off-beat chic except for a few pockets of elegance here and there  Thanks to a some savvy designers, the funk was fine-tuned into into high fashion.  The era was the most politically charged of the century and invariably spilled over even into haute couture.
The above gown is
out of Vogue UK 1966, a bouffant out of lace and satin by Belinda Belville (Later of Belville-Sassoon fame)

Another Belinda Belville masterpiece.  Though featured in Vogue Pattern Book April/May 1970, the precisely placed buttons, luxe taffeta and use of lace make this gown timeless, wearable in any decade.

What a day for a day dream . . . this is actually a Vogue Pattern for what was dubbed an 'Edwardian' gown. More mainstream to bridal than the above images, it mixes up two eras in one look; the floppy horse hair hat was a hark back to a vintage craze going on that celebrated the life of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchannan.
This design while conservative with a traditional  Alencon lace bodice and satin sash has has 70s bohemian elements in the sleeve and floppy hat

A TOUCH OF SKY

A Touch of Sky
Sky blue and white clouds are such a pretty and nature-inspired theme here.  What caught my eye on this board is the white wood floor and light tones of the French Provincial chair bottom right, stunning . . .

BHLDN has captured the imaginations of wedding adorers all over.
Their shoe collection is sweet, sweet eye candy.  So in love...

LACE: New Twists on a Time Honored Tradition Part 1

Not only are the traditional uses of lace still inspiring, there's a whole new spin on that old tradition thanks to a few savvy designers. Above and below are separates from Alberta Ferretti's 2011 Spring campaign in knit and cotton laces, definitely on the cutting edge. For the eco-conscious bride who wants to find a better alternative for her bridal ensemble than storing it in a box under her bed, any of these could easily be reworn post-wedding.

What to wear...the Maxi dress

Good morning!  Have you ladies bought your maxi dress yet?  This is one fashion trend this year that translates so beautifully into weddings.  Gorgeous maxi dresses for your bridesmaids would be ideal this summer and if you are attending wedding showers and dinners you will be so chic in a long, free form maxi.  Seriously, if you haven't jumped on this band wagon, you need to.  I fell for one at Anthropologie the other day--it is perfectly satisfying knowing that it feels like I'm wearing a night gown but look like a million bucks. You will wear these dresses any and every where.  Which is exactly what your maids want in a dress!   Dress them up or down with thick leather belts, lightweight cardigan sweaters, and/or long necklaces--the a maxi dress is a staple in your closet this season.

{I'm highlighting the wonderful maxi collection at Anthropologie because I tried on a bundle the other day and fell in love with almost every single one, but you can find them just about anywhere :)}

Inspiration: white bouquets

What's one wedding trend that I am absolutely in love with this 2011 season?  White, white and white!!  Ooh, I love classic white weddings.  So beautiful, stunning and wonderfully timeless.  So when I saw this gorgeous wedding bouquets from Fluer:ology, I was excited to share them with you.  This is one trend that really doesn't go out of style, but the best party about it being so chic this year is you can really play up the beautiful simplicity of white and add in layers of cream and off-white to create gorgeous depth.  (And a little insider tip: Weddings Fresh is working on a beautiful white inspired wedding shoot to show off this fab trend!  Can't wait to show you!!).

Fluer:ology used fresh mini calla lilies, dahlias, peonies, mums and garden roses for these bouquets and dressed them up with a deep bronze satin ribbon and crystal accents.  All of them were designed for the same wedding, with each bridesmaid carrying a unique white bouquet held against their dark purple dresses.  Quite the dramatic showing!

Thank you, Fluer:ology!!
